It is amazing to think that I have been working for BKC -International House for almost a decade. After teaching in Moldova, Germany, Thailand and the UK, I am in a good position to judge the relative merits of schools and I can honestly say that BKC is the most dynamic and professional environment I have ever been in.
Many things have changed in BKC, and Russia, since my arrival but the cornerstone of the school has always remained its commitment to quality. For learners, this means lessons which are effective and engaging. For teachers, this means job satisfaction, career growth and the chance to make a real difference in individuals' lives. The school caters for teachers at every stage of their career. Newly qualified teachers receive expert guidance and an abundance of training; experienced teachers have the opportunity to teach an incredible range of course types, from kindergarten to EAP.
The success of the school is directly linked to teachers so it is crucial that we value and support our most valuable resource. I co-ordinate and manage the Educational Management Team (EMT). The function of the EMT is to support teachers in their work. The ratio of EMT to teachers is very high so that we are able to offer teachers individual training and feedback. As a member of the International House Organisation, we are regularly inspected and one comment that is always made by inspectors concerns the comprehensiveness of our teacher support systems.
I have now finished my doctorate in applied linguistics, become a published author and taught a whole generation of Russian students. However, I cannot seriously entertain the idea of working in a different school. BKC offers something to every teacher and if my experience is anything to go by, you will find all your career aspirations realised in the very special environment which has been created here.
